WASHINGTON – A Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), que por muito tempo monitorou e espionou as redes sociais para descobrir tendências globais e perseguir malfeitores, abriu oficialmente na sexta-feira (06JUN14), contas no Twitter e no Facebook.
A agência de espionagem quer se esforçar para difundir sua mensagem da melhor forma e se envolver mais diretamente com o público, embora seu primeiro tweet, por volta das 15h (de Brasília) da sexta-feira, não tenha dado mostras de que fará grandes revelações através da rede social.
Ele simplesmente dizia: "Não podemos confirmar nem negar que este é nosso primeiro tweet". "We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet."
A falta de conteúdo não diminuiu o interesse: em menos de 90 minutos, a conta da CIA já tinha cerca de 84 mil seguidores, e essa cifra aumentava rapidamente ( 560.000 as 20h50min 08JUN14).
A Agência Central de Inteligência tem um site na internet há muito tempo e contas oficiais no YouTube e no Flickr — rede social para compartilhar fotografias.
"Ao expandir a ação para estas plataformas (Facebook e Twitter), a CIA poderá participar de maneira mais direta com o público e oferecer informações sobre a história, as missões e outros acontecimentos da agência", disse o diretor da CIA, John Brennan, em comunicado.
Entre as publicações que a agência planeja fazer estão artefatos do museu da CIA, não-aberto ao público, e atualizações de seu "World Factbook" (livro de fatos sobre o mundo, em tradução livre), um compêndio de líderes mundiais, mapas e informações diversas.
